WHY DO I WANT TO BE A REALTOR®?

The State of Connecticut licenses real estate brokers, real estate agents and real estate appraisers. The State enacts laws and implements regulatons which guide licensee’s in the conduct of their real estate business.

REALTORS® are more than real estate licensees. They belong to one of the largest trade Associations in the nation and adhere to its strict code of ethics. The term REALTOR® is a trademark term registered to the National Association of REALTORS® (N.A.R.). The National Association grants authority to local Boards (or Associations) of REALTORS® to use the terms within their assigned jurisdictional area, subject to certain criteria..

In order to use the trademark terms, local board members must agree to abide by state laws AND the Board’s Bylaws and Multiple Listing Service Rules and Regulations. Most importantly, REALTOR® members hold themselves accountable under the REALTOR® Code of Ethics, which is more stringent than the laws and regulations in the State of Connecticut. In short, REALTORS® hold themselves to much higher standards of conduct than real estate licensees.

If you want to be a professional that is dedicated, sensitive to your client’s needs, current on the "market area" and fully educated in the finest points of the real estate industry, you want to become a REALTOR®.

The Greater Waterbury Board of REALTORS®, Inc. is one of 1800 REALTOR® Associations nationwide that comprises the National Association of REALTORS®. The Greater Waterbury Board of REALTORS®, Inc. has been servicing the real estate needs of the City of Waterbury and the Towns of Middlebury, Naugatuck, Prospect, Southbury, Watertown/Oakville, Wolcott, and Woodbury since 1920. The Greater Waterbury Board was one of the first Boards in the State to be chartered by the National Association.

The Greater Waterbury Board of REALTORS®, Inc. is a forward thinking, market driven Association, which is directed by its members. The membership consists of over 800 REALTORS® and approximately 100 Affiliates. The Greater Waterbury Board of REALTORS®, Inc. was instrumental in the formation of the first Property Owners Group in Waterbury (The Property Owners Association of Greater Waterbury, Inc.) in the early 90's and most recently, the 1st Active Affiliate for Habitat for Humanity representing the Greater Waterbury area in 2003.
